The Super Bowl halftime has been a star-studded affair for quite long. The local bands of colleges and high schools have now been replaced with glamour-packed performances of well-known celebrities in the world of pop culture. The tradition is set to be continued this year too because favorite rock band Maroon 5 have agreed to perform during the halftime of Super Bowl 2019. The news has been confirmed to Billboard by one of their sources, but it hasn’t yet been confirmed by any of the official sources. Neither any announcement has been done by NFL, nor any representative from Maroon 5 has confirmed the development.
Maroon 5 headlines Super Bowl 2019 Halftime show
Maroon 5 itself had also been interested in performing at Super Bowl for quite some time. Adam Levine, the lead vocalist of the band, had admitted in a 2015 interview that he and his team “very actively want to play the Super Bowl”. Now almost four years later that dream seems to be coming true.
Special Guest Appearances
The list of special guests for the 2019 Super Bowl is also being finalized. Billboard has learned that Travis Scott and Cardi B are on the shortlist of special guests, but this info should be taken with a grain of salt as everything is very uncertain about this list for now.
About Maroon 5
Maroon 5 is an American rock band from Los Angeles, California. As of now, its members include:
1. Adam Levine (lead vocalist)
2. Mickey Madden (bassist)
3. Matt Flynn (drummer)
4. Jesse Carmichael (keyboardist cum rhythm guitarist)
5. James Valentine (lead guitarist)
6. PJ Morton (keyboardist)
7. Sam Farrar (multi-instrumentalist).
Yes, they’re not five members in the group as one would assume from the name. The band won a Grammy Award in 2005 for Best New Artist, 3 American Music Awards, 3 People’s Choice Awards and 4 Billboard Music Awards. They also received the World Music Award in 2004 for World’s Best Group. Their latest album is Red Pill Blues, whose song “Girls Like You” peaked Billboard Hot 100 for quite some time (it’s still second as I write this article).
Also, this is not the first time when Maroon 5 is going to do something in the world of sports. They also did a Hyundai promo for 2018 FIFA World Cup that concluded a few months ago.
The news of Maroon 5 performing at Super Bowl 2019 halftime has not been received well among Super Bowl fans. As soon as the news broke, people went on Twitter to express their discontent with the choice. Some of the tweets highlighting the reasons for discontent are given below:
